British researchers with the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) kept track of 20,244 healthy men and women, ages 45 to 79, who filled out health behavior questionnaires. For those who followed a similar regimen, I recommend to my patients- improved how well they eat, move, think, connect, and cope in life- had an advantage equivalent to being 14 years younger!

Keep in mind, over 20,000 humans were studied evaluating human behaviors linking to how well they eat, move, think, connect, and cope. Interestingly, vitamin supplements were not associated with greater longevity.

Is this because of interest groups? Nope.

There is no pharmaceutical or nutraceutical product that can supplement for suicide by lifestyle! There is no magic bullet in the wild or in a product! There are things that can kill you in the wild, but not the fountain of youth. There is no potion, lotion, or product that will bring longevity.

This is not to say I don’t recommend nutritional supplements because I do. Nor is this to say, I don’t recommend using nutraceuticals to aid the body because I do.

Here is the difference, most people think they can eat like a suicidal maniac and take a handful of pills to compensate. That is the prevailing belief system of this era and is the reason we are so sick.

Why? It is the bioactive nutrients found in plant and animal food that cannot be manufactured and put into a bottle! (Bioactive means the active living symbiotic organisms/DNA/nutrients/microbiome etc that are destroyed when manufactured).

You and I were taught that you can just take nutrients out of plants and animals and package them in a bottle. The truth is, you lose the bioactive nutrients only found in living plant and animal foods. The simple truth is this, you have to eat healthy day in and day out by choosing healthier foods. You also have to move (walking 8 – 10 miles; like a hunter-gatherer) so proper nerve signaling can turn on proper hormones, cell signaling, organ function, etc. The way our bodies absorb nutrients comes from the infrastructural demands we place on our bodies (movement).

Here is one example from this study, ‘higher vitamin C levels in the blood were associated with extra years, but that doesn’t mean that vitamin C supplements would have the same effect. It’s not “vitamin C by itself that’s related to mortality,” explains Dr. Kay-Tee Khaw, one of EPIC’s principal investigators, “but rather that vitamin C is a good marker for dietary intake of plant foods, have many more bioactive nutrients than vitamin C alone that may be related to health.'”

Moral of the story.

Of course I recommend nutrition but mostly essential nutrition, you get that by what you Eat!
