It’s Not Buddha!
61 % of American Adults are Overweight.
27 % of Americans – 50 Million People – are Obese.
In the past 20 years, overweight children ages 6 to 11 have Doubled in the U.S.
We Are Now Officially the Fattest Country in the World
1. For those overweight individuals with lower back problems, Kapandji in The Physiology of the Joints says that for every 1 lb extra weight a person is carrying, this equates to 10 lb extra pressure on the discs in the lower lumbar spine. That’s all…just 1 lb! This can be explained to an overweight person that the 40 lbs. extra weight they are carrying is 400 lbs. extra pressure on the discs in their lower spine, and this is dangerous for their discs and also retards recovery and progress.
2. According to a 2012 article by Harvard Health Publications: “Each pound you lose reduces knee pressure in every step you take. One study found that the risk of developing osteoarthritis dropped 50 percent with each 11-pound weight loss among younger obese women. If older men lost enough weight to shift from an obese classification to just overweight — that is, from a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher down to one that fell between 25 and 29.9 — the researchers estimated knee osteoarthritis would decrease by a fifth. For older women, that shift would cut knee osteoarthritis by a third.”
Key points to remember:
• A 22 lb. weight loss reduces Heart Attack Risk by 75 %.
• A 15 lb. weight loss reduces your risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes by 50%
• Losing 10 lbs doubles your chances of normalizing your blood pressure!
